Settings > Assistant opens with two controls that decide how much your assistant does without waiting for you: a switch for whether it works in the background at all, and a pair of rows for exactly what kind of work it's allowed to do there.
When You'd Use This
Turn to this page the first time your team gets an assistant-filed task or a stage-move suggestion and someone asks "did it just do that on its own?" It's also where you go before onboarding a new team member who should see fewer surprises, or before turning it off for a team that would rather ask for everything explicitly.
Working On Its Own, Or Only When Asked
The card at the top is one switch. With it on, your assistant watches your deals in the background and steps in when something needs attention, following the rows set below. With it off, it sits quiet until messaged in chat or by text, and nothing runs unless you ask directly.
Only the team's broker or an organization admin can flip this switch. Everyone else sees its position labeled "Set by your team's broker" instead of a control. A locked organization-wide default is what the switch reflects until an admin changes it.
Everyday Updates Against Changes to a File
Below the switch, two rows govern what background work is allowed to do once it's on. This is the one distinction worth remembering on the whole page: everyday updates can run fully automatically, but changes to a file never can.
- Everyday updates - filing a follow-up task, linking an email to a deal, updating a detail it picked up - can run automatically, suggest first, or not at all. Out of the box it's suggest first; you turn it up deliberately.
- Changes to a file - creating a contact or deal, moving a stage, filing a condition or document read out of lender email - only offers suggest first or not at all. There's no automatic option here, by design.
A suggestion from either row shows up as a small sparkle chip on the deal or contact, and nothing happens until you open it and accept.
What Still Asks You to Confirm in Chat
A handful of actions produce their own confirmation button no matter what these rows say, even in chat: moving a deal's stage, creating or deleting a deal, pulling credit, and submitting to a lender. Your assistant tells you it's ready and waits for you to press the button - these aren't settings you tune here, they confirm every time.
The Switches That Live Elsewhere
This page doesn't cover everything. Outbound messages are governed per channel - email under Settings > Email, texts under Phone > Settings - because wanting it to stop texting rarely means wanting it to stop emailing too. Whether it can move a deal between two specific stages without asking is a separate, per-stage setting on that board, covered in Let BrokerPlus Suggest Stage Moves.
Common Gotchas
Turning "Everyday updates" to automatic doesn't loosen "Changes to a file" - the two rows are independent, and the second keeps requiring review regardless. If your brokerage's admin has locked a row at the organization level, your team's broker sees it as fixed rather than editable, with no indication on this page of where to unlock it.
What to Do Next
- What Your Assistant Suggests Before You Ask to see how a suggestion chip actually reads.
- Write Instructions for Your Assistant to shape how it does the work these rows allow.
- Review What Runs on Its Own to audit what's already happened in the background.
