Dial in lets you call your own BrokerPlus number from your personal cell and have it place a call for you. The person you reach sees your business number, not your personal one, and the call is recorded and filed just like one placed from the in-app dialer.
When You'd Use This
You're away from your desk with only your cell in hand, and you need to call a client without your personal number showing up on their phone. Dial in solves that: ring your BrokerPlus number, key in who you want to reach, and it dials out on your behalf.
Dial-In vs. Forwarding
These two settings move calls in opposite directions, and it's easy to cross them up.
Forwarding (set on the Business Hours card) is about calls arriving at your BrokerPlus number. During business hours, your forwarding cell rings alongside the browser, so you can answer a client call on the go.
Dial-in runs the other way. You call your BrokerPlus number, and instead of the call ringing through anywhere, it asks you for a number to call and places that outbound call for you.
You can use both at once, and the cell you dial in from does not have to be the same one your calls forward to.
Setting the Cell You Dial In From
- Open Phone > Settings > Call Handling.
- Under the Dial In card, turn on Dial In From Your Cell.
- Enter the cell you'll call in from under Dial In From, in E.164 format (for example
+15875551234).
Once it's on, calling your BrokerPlus number from that cell no longer rings through. It prompts you for a number instead.
Adding a PIN, or Skipping One
Under Dial-In PIN, you can set 4 to 8 digits. Most of the time you won't need it: your carrier verifies your caller ID, and dial-in trusts that automatically. Only when your carrier can't confirm who's calling does it ask for the PIN before letting you dial out.
If you never set a PIN and your carrier can't verify you, the call just rings through as usual instead of offering dial-in. Set a PIN if you want dial-in to work reliably regardless of carrier verification.
Type your digits and press Enter, or click away, to save one. A saved PIN never displays again; a new one just replaces it.
Common Gotchas
- Dial-in only covers calls. It doesn't change how your texts go out. Texts you send from the Phone page already carry your business line through the Send as setting, whether or not dial-in is on.
- If dial-in doesn't seem to trigger, check whether your carrier is verifying your caller ID silently. Adding a PIN makes it consistent.
- Turning dial-in on or off has no effect on whether your cell rings for inbound calls. That's controlled separately by forwarding.
What to Do Next
- Claim a Phone Number if you haven't set up your BrokerPlus line yet.
- Set Up Call Routing and Voicemail to configure forwarding for inbound calls.
- Make Calls and Send Texts to see how outbound calls and texts are filed once you place them.
