Some clients cannot sit at their own screen and answer a request themselves: they are on the phone with you right now, or in your office with a stack of paper. Filling it in for them puts what they tell you straight onto their request.
When to Fill One In Yourself
Reach for this when your client genuinely cannot answer on their own, not as a shortcut around asking them. It works on a request that is still open: in progress, submitted, or sitting with them after you asked for changes. An approved request has nothing left open to write to.
Switch Into Fill Mode
Open the request from the deal and switch into fill mode from its own view. The usual outreach controls, copying the link and asking for more, step aside while you are in it, so the screen is just your client's fields and document slots waiting for an answer.
Answer for the Right Applicant
When more than one applicant is on the request, a small picker names each of them. Pick who you are entering answers for before you start, and everything you stage next, a field or a file, is tagged to that person. Switch between applicants any time the conversation moves between them.
Save or Discard What You Staged
Nothing you enter reaches your client's record until you save it. A bar at the bottom counts what you have staged, fields and files together, and offers Save and Discard side by side. Discard clears everything you typed without touching their record; Save writes all of it in one pass. Stepping out of fill mode on its own does not save for you, so save deliberately before you move on.
What Is Recorded About Who Filled It
Every answer you enter and every file you upload this way is logged as yours, not your client's. The request's activity history reads that you filled a field, or uploaded a document, on their behalf, distinct from an ordinary client upload, and the record itself is stamped with your name rather than theirs. Filling something in does not submit the request by itself; from there it still moves the same way any other one does.
What to Do Next
- Work a Returned Request once what you entered is ready to review.
- Send a Client Request for Documents if your client actually needs a fresh ask rather than help finishing the old one.
- When a Client Did Not Receive Your Request covers what to check before filling one in becomes your only option.
