Most of your book arrives through an import or grows out of a deal, but sometimes the right move is to add someone by hand right away - a referral partner you just met, a client who called before their file existed. The New Contact form covers a person or a company in one pass.

8:07Opening the New Contact Form
Use the New Contact button on your Contacts page, or the command palette and the dashboard's quick action - all three open the same composer directly.
Individual or Company
Start by choosing Kind: Individual asks for a first and last name, Company asks for a company name instead. Pick Company for a business the record represents in its own right, such as a builder or a corporation, rather than a person who works there.
Choosing a Type
Type defaults to Contact, the plain entry for a client or prospect. Choosing Partner or Broker here manually tags that facet on the new record. That is different from Lead and Client: BrokerPlus works those two out on its own from a contact's deal history, and you never set them by hand, here or anywhere else. See Set a Contact's Type and Partner Role for more on managing that distinction after the contact exists.
Recording Who Referred Them
The optional Referred By field searches your existing contacts by name, company, email, or phone. If the referrer is not in your book yet, add their name inline from the same box rather than leaving the form to create them first. Picking a referrer reveals a Source dropdown - realtor, lawyer, past client, financial planner, insurance, builder, partner, self-generated, or other - so the referral is categorized from the start. A contact keeps one recorded referrer at a time; naming a new one later replaces it.
What Happens After You Save
You need at least a name, an email, or a phone number before you can create the contact. Before it saves, BrokerPlus checks for someone already in your contacts with a similar name or email and shows you the match, so you can open the existing person instead of creating a second one - or confirm you meant to add someone new. Some brokerages turn on a stricter check that also looks across every team's book; a match caught that way blocks the create outright rather than asking, since brokerage policy keeps one person on one team. Once it saves, the new contact opens straight to their profile so you can keep filling in the rest.
