Ask for Marketing Consent on a Form

Add the subscribe box that grows a list you are allowed to email.

Open Lead Forms in BrokerPlus

A lead form captures someone's contact details so you can follow up on their inquiry, but that's not the same as permission to add them to a mailing list. The subscribe box is a separate tick, and it's the only thing on a lead form that grants marketing consent. Without it, a submission is just a lead - nobody gets added to anything you'd send a campaign to.

When You'd Use This

Turn this on for any lead form where you'd like a genuinely interested submitter to also join your list, not just get a one-off follow-up. It's configured per form, on the Subscribers tab of that form's settings, by anyone who can edit lead forms.

What The Box Records

Switch on Ask them to subscribe and a tick box appears on the last step of the form, separate from the rest of the questions. When someone submits with it ticked, BrokerPlus records their consent and adds them to the list you chose - but only if they actually ticked it. An unticked or missing box adds nobody, even if the rest of the form went through fine.

That consent is recorded against the marketing email category specifically, per BrokerPlus's consent model. It's distinct from other categories like equity reports, so ticking this box doesn't opt someone into a report subscription on its own - only into whatever you send under Marketing.

Choosing The List They Join

Pick which segment new subscribers land in from Add subscribers to. This is the same segment a recurring campaign reads from, so choose (or build) the one you'll actually be sending to. A submission with the box ticked but no list chosen doesn't add the subscriber anywhere.

Writing The Label

The text next to the tick box is what the visitor actually reads before they check it, so it has to say plainly what they're signing up for - name what you'll actually send them, not a vague "stay in touch." A label that oversells or obscures what the subscription is undermines the consent you're trying to record.

Why It Is Never Pre-Ticked

The box always starts unticked and stays that way between visits - it's never pre-checked, and it's never remembered from a prior session. Express consent has to be an act the visitor takes on this specific submission, and a box that arrives already ticked doesn't demonstrate that.

A couple of things follow from that. Ticking the box records consent for the marketing category only, not for whatever else you might send later. And if the box is switched off entirely for a form, ordinary submissions through it grant no marketing consent at all, no matter how enthusiastic the lead - which is exactly the point. The recording also happens after the lead itself is saved, so it never blocks or fails a submission even if something goes wrong with the subscribe step.

What to Do Next

  • Build a Segment to have a real list ready before you turn this on.
  • Run a Campaign to actually send to the people who opted in.
  • Check what clients can opt out of to see how they can leave the list later.

Keeps track of what you have already been through.
