Every mortgage gets a name built the same way, from a template your organization sets once. BrokerPlus reads the segments the template names, pulls each one off the deal, and joins them together as the file fills in - so a deal opened before you know the borrower still picks up a name on its own. You can still rename any single deal by hand, and a renamed deal keeps that name.
What a Deal Name Is Built From
A name is assembled from segments: borrower names, client last name, client first name, co-applicant last name, deal type, property city, property street, mortgage amount, lender, closing date, and the deal's own reference number. Borrower names condense a shared surname into one, so a couple who share a last name reads as "Linda & John Summit" rather than repeating it. A segment with nothing to show yet, such as a lender before one is selected, is skipped rather than leaving a blank gap or a stray separator.
Choosing the Segments and Their Order
From the deals page, open the more options menu and choose Mortgage naming. Switch each segment on or off, and use the up and down arrows beside a segment to move it earlier or later. Pick a separator - space, dash, or hyphen - to join the pieces. This is a single template for the whole organization, not one per board, so every broker's cards follow it. Only an admin can change it; everyone else can open the same screen to see how their deals are named.
Previewing the Result
The screen shows a live example above the segment list, built from a worked file that exercises every segment - a couple with different last names, a purchase in Calgary, a lender, a closing date, and a deal number - so you see the shape of a real name as you build the template rather than a template string with tokens to guess at. Nothing is written until you press Save naming, so you can try out different orders and separators first.
Renaming One Deal
On the deal itself, press the pencil beside its name to type one by hand. A manual name is not touched when the template changes or when the deal's own details, such as the loan amount, change later - it stays exactly as you typed it.
Going Back to the Brokerage Template
To drop a manual name and let the deal follow the template again, press the small circular arrow beside the name. In the naming screen itself, Use the BrokerPlus standard resets the template to the default BrokerPlus ships with - borrower names, deal type, and street - if your organization wants to start over.
